Concorde Hotel Shah Alam has chosen ‘The Best of Kota Anggerik‘ as the theme for this year’s Ramadhan buffet available at Melting Pot Cafe.

I took the 7.25 am ETS train from Ipoh and reached KL Sentral at about 10.15 am after a slight delay. It’s been a while since I last took the morning train. I didn’t even sleep as I was afraid that I’d overslept like last time and miss the train. Took the KTM train to Shah Alam and reached the hotel at about 12 pm. I’m actually surprised I managed to reach before the event started.

The menu comprises over 100 scrumptious dishes.

Out of over 100 dishes, 10 of the hotel’s specialty dishes include:

  • Nasi Kandar Seksyen Sembilan
  • Asam Laksa
  • Daging Rendang Tok
  • Sambal Petai Pedas Manis
  • Ayam Kari Kapitan
  • Kacang Panjang Tumis Belacan
  • Kambing Panggang Berempah Bawang Putih
  • Sup Gear Box
  • Sup kambing Mamak

Sambal Tumis Udang.

Nasi Briani & Ayam Panggang Percik.

Sup Gear Box.

This has always been their specialty. I have no idea how to eat it and when they asked me to try, I was so full I could pop. Hopefully, I’d get another chance to try it. It’s kind of fascinating to them slurping the soup through the bone with a straw.

This year they will be ordering 400 kg of gear box! That’s MASSIVE.

Assorted local desserts.

More local ‘kuih’ and puddings.

Bazaar Seksyen Dua (appetizer section).

Lala Masak Cili Bawang Putih

Parsley Herbs Mashed Potatoes.

Whenever I go to their buffet, I always go for the mashed potatoes first because it’s one of my faves and it’s SO GOOD. I’m so glad they had it there on that day.

Nasi Seksyen Sembilan.

This is part of the hotel’s specialty.

Seksyen Lapan with Kambing Panggang Berempah Bawang Putih.

Belanga Seksyen Enam.

All the noodles here like Mee Kari, Mee Udang, Mee Jawa, etc.

The live stations outdoor, including their specialty ‘Sup Gear Box”.

Ayam Panggang Golek 3 Rasa.

Roti John live station.

They sure look good.

Apam Balik Istana. (Crispy Oat Apam Balik)

The guy was so friendly and we had a nice chat about the apam balik. This is a healthier option of apam balik because they don’t use peanuts but instead, they use oats so that those who are allergic to peanuts can still enjoy this apam balik. The taste is a bit lighter compared to peanuts and not as flavorful because it’s oats but it’s still good.

And it’s crunchy! I love apam balik that are thin and crunchy. So this is a must try.

Oh my gosh, they had Turkish Ice-Cream!

When I go to a buffet, I always look for the most unique thing they have and I was excited to see they had Turkish ice cream. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to taste it because I had forgotten about it until it was too late 🙁

Only thing is that when I was recording the video, there was no funny action. If you’re familiar with Turkish ice cream, you’d know they always ‘play‘ with you before serving the ice cream. It’s annoying but also fun to watch. I was expecting that but they didn’t do it at the time. The guy was just scooping the ice-cream despite someone else telling him to do it. Maybe he wasn’t ready. Oh well.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the Booza Ice-Cream video I recorded at Bukit Bintang.

The murtabak live station.

They even have homemade pizza (and some fried food like keropok lekor).

A little bit of everything.

A pretty common food at buffet Ramadhan but always a must-have – the lamb! Lamb is always good so no complaint here.

My plate of desserts! I can’t decide which one I like the best because I loved them all. The apple crumbles with vanilla sauce was good (but a bit filling). Oh gosh, the chocolate sauce on the fruits and marshmallow… yaaaaaaas man!

After the buffet Ramadhan preview, I headed outside to see the making of bubur lambuk.

Every year, the Management and Hosts of Concorde Hotel Shah Alam will get together to cook then distribute bubur lambuk. It has been their annual event since 2004.

The weather was so nice this year compared to last year where it rained heavily. You can read all about last year’s event here – Bubur Lambuk Free Giveaway Event 2017

The making of Bubur Lambuk took place in Concorde Hotel Shah Alam’s very own kitchen, with the Management and Hosts assisting the chefs with the cooking process. It started as early as 7 am, with 300 kg of rice, 80kg of beef, and many other ingredients cooked in big pots of heartening Bubur Lambuk.

Later that day at 2 pm, the Hosts joined hands again to pack the Bubur Lambuk into 8,000 packets.

Vehicles started queueing in the hotel’s driveway as early as 3 pm. The driveway was turned into the hotel’s version of a ‘drive-thru’. By 4 pm, the staff from offices nearby started queueing up too.

Hosts also delivered some Bubur Lambuk to the mosques, orphanages as well as underprivileged homes nearby. By 7 pm, all 8,000 packets of Bubur Lambuk were distributed to the public.

If you’ve never tasted their Bubur Lambuk, boy, you’ve been missing out. Their Bubur Lambuk is THE BEST and I’m not just simply saying that. If you’ve missed the giveaway, you can still taste their delicious Bubur Lambuk at their buffet Ramadhan.
