I hope it’s still not too late to wish GONG XI FA CAI! Happy Chinese New Year to all my Chinese friends and readers. So, last week I had the opportunity to do “Loh Sang” with my media friends and staff at the Concorde Hotel Shah Alam.

The ‘Loh Sang’ For Prosperity was held at RakuXin restaurant. Normally I’d take the ETS train from Ipoh but this time I decided to drive. It’s the holiday season so obviously, all trains were fully booked. It’s been so long since I last drove to KL. First time driving to Shah Alam! Thank goodness for GPS, huh?

It was my first time at RakuXin Restaurant. My previous two reviews were at Melting Pot Cafe.

The fun and friendly staff of Concorde Hotel Shah Alam. Thank you so much for having us. I didn’t expect my mom to join together because the original plan was to send her to visit her sick brother but the plan changed at the last minute. She’s been saying how much she wanted to taste Yee Sang and finally she had the opportunity to taste it.

And when we got home, she couldn’t stop talking about how much she loved the food.

The very colorful Prosperity Yee Sang with fresh salmon and baby octopus.

I recorded the video of all of us doing the tossing but it’s still being edited. I will edit this post again with the video when it’s ready.

RakuXin Restaurant presents a selection of delicious Yee Sang such as Salmon Yee Sang, Scallop Yee Sang, Pear & Salmon Yee Sang, and Pacific Clam Yee Sang to the extravagant Abalone Yee Sang. If you want something special, you may choose the Fish Maw Yee Sang or the Disney Yee Sang.

The Yee Sang dishes are priced from RM88 and are available at RakuXin Restaurant from February 1st, 2018 until March 2nd, 2018 (from 12pm – 2.30pm / 6.30pm – 10.30pm). Available in small and large portions.

The tossing of Yee Sang signifies good luck, fortune, good health, and longevity.

I love that they had both salmon and baby octopus, two of my favorite ingredients. Very tasty and crunchy.

The Yee Sang is also included in the Celebratory sets. There are 3 different menus priced at RM888, RM988, and RM1188 per table of ten.

We were served Menu 3 (RM1188 per table of 10).

Dried Scallop and Crabmeat Soup

The soup is what I always look forward to in a Chinese course meal because they’re so good. The savory, thick, slightly salty-ish, and sweet soup.

For the entire meal, we were served Chinese Tea.

Duo Roasted Chicken & Duck with Traditional Chinese Herbs

I love ducks! So, I was happy to see this dish being served.

Steamed Tiger Garoupa in Hong Kong Style

I’m not gonna lie. Big fish scares me. But it tastes oh so good.

Fried Rice with Garlic Prawn, Shimeji Mushroom, and Salted Egg

Broccoli & Black Mushroom Served with Butter Dried Oyster

Oh yes, broccoli and mushroom! Oh yes! I wish I had more of this.

Wok Fried Prawn with Mango & Oat

I love the prawns coated in oat. The oat gives them some crunch as the prawns are deshelled. The crackers were a bit stale but the mango was juicy! Tasted good when eaten together with the oat prawn.

New Year Egg Tart & Lotus Mochi

Ah, desserts. I love the tart but I’m a bigger mochi fan. Love the mochi! Mochi is a Japanese dessert. If you’ve never had mochi before, it’s a type of Japanese rice cake and it’s very chewy. So good!

Chilled Soya Bean with Sea Coconut & Rambutan

Last but not least, something fresh and cool at the end of the course. Perfect for a hot day.

And an orange to end the delicious meal.

Thank you again to Concorde Hotel Shah Alam for inviting us to experience the tossing of Yee Sang together with everyone and for the delicious 8-course menu.

You, too, can still enjoy the Yee Sang and the Celebratory Masterpiece 8-Course Set Menus by March 2nd, 2018 at RakuXin Restaurant, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam either for lunch or dinner (closed on Sundays and Public Holidays).
