Silka Cheras and other branches of Silka Hotels Malaysia are having a sumptuous spread of culinary delights this Ramadhan with ‘Juadah Silka buffet dinner‘. From 17 May until mid-June 2018, urbanites seeking a taste of traditional kampung-style Malay cuisine need not look further, as they will be spoilt for choice at Silka Maytower Kuala Lumpur, Silka Cheras Kuala Lumpur, and Silka Johor Bahru.

Over at Silka Cheras Kuala Lumpur, diners will tuck into a scrumptious feast featuring all-time favorites such as Ikan Bakar Daun Pisang, Ketam Masak Lemak, Udang Masak Sambal Petai, Daging Masak Hitam, and more. Not to be missed is the carving station featuring the mouth-watering Roasted Lamb and Nasi Biryani with Vegetable Curry and Acar Timun.

Silka Cheras Hotel is in Cheras and conveniently located next to Cheras Sentral which is also connected to the Taman Connaught MRT Station. The hotel is also accessible from the mall. The bridge to the MRT station connects to one of the floors. I can’t remember which, though. Probably 2nd? 3rd?

The MRT station is also easily accessible from KL Sentral. You just have to do a little bit of walking towards the Muzium Negara MRT station. It’s about 25 minutes trip from Muzium Negara MRT station to Taman Connaught MRT station.

I was about half an hour late and the place was already packed with people already enjoying their food.

The cafe is a bit small so it seemed a bit too crowded that night.

But, as soon as I entered the place, the smell of ‘petai’ (stinky beans) permeated the room. Despite being quite full, the lovely aroma made me hungry again.

I managed to take a picture of the entertainers before they went for a break.

The first thing I noticed was the dessert and ulam-ulaman/kerabu/salads table. It was the prettiest and the most colorful setup that’s visually captivating.

Look at how colorful they are! Even though they were just ordinary pudding/jelly in a glass, but they made it look different than normal pudding. I really love how they decided to make them 3 or 4-layered pudding instead of just the boring one-colored pudding.

I was also happy to see the ‘keropok lekor’ because I’ve been craving it for days prior to the event. And of course, satay.

This is the noodle station if I’m not mistaken.

Then it was time to eat! There weren’t a lot of dishes that night but since I’ve been smelling the ‘petai’ since I arrived there, I decided to go for it first.

Udang Masak Sambal Petai.

OH YES. This is a must-try, people. It’s so good. Sometimes the petai would be tasteless after it’s cooked with the sambal, but this petai tasted good. You could taste the bitterness (but not too bitter) and that’s what makes a good petai. Did I mention the nice aroma too?

I saw they had the fruit rojak. Normally I wouldn’t be interested in this is but it looked so damn good. Like it was calling to me to pick up a plate and take some and eat them.

Satay is the most common dish served on any occasion but they’re not always good. But let me tell you, this satay was GOOD.

I decided to taste each of the dishes available. The crab (Ketam Masak Lemak) was good but the prawn, man. The prawn! With the petai. I was munching those petai like snacks… like potato chips. Yes, it was that good.

And the fruit rojak. It was refreshing. The sauce was very thick (and sticky), sweet with a hint of saltiness. It’s always hard to find a good fruit rojak sauce made exactly how I’d like it but they nailed it. I wish I could bottle up the sauce and take some home. Seriously.

I wish I had more satay! And the hot and crunchy keropok lekor that I’ve been craving for.

Of course, I had to taste the layered pudding (mine had 4 layers). It’s absolutely pretty. I could just sit and stare at it. Taste-wise, it’s nothing new. It tastes like how a normal pudding and jelly would taste.

Overall, it was a nice preview. They didn’t have an extensive buffet spread at the preview like some of the previews I’ve been to but I’d go back there for the Udang Sambal Petai alone.

The buffet will be available daily from 17th May to 12th June 2018, 6 pm to 10 pm.
